Who We Are

Camp Centaur is a Summer Camp for children with cancer, and/or their siblings. Camp Centaur is a dedicated camp with horseback riding, arts, crafts, folk art, wagon rides, nature trails and fishing. Our full staff includes a nurse and physical therapist.

Come and enjoy our horse farm and activities.

All camps are free for children.

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Camp Centaur Format

Camps consist of day camp with two-day sessions during the Summer and Fall months as well as Winter and Spring Holiday special camps.

We also have special camp dates over the Christmas and Spring Break holidays. We provide free camps (scholarship-supported) for both kids with cancer and for kids who are cancer-free but from a family with either a brother or sister with cancer. We are a Not-For-Profit Corporation (501c3) and are solely supported by donations, grants, gifts and proceeds from multiple annual fundraisers so that we can offer this vital service to those who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of horse camps for their children.

Camp Centaur offers horseback riding and basic instruction for novice and beginning riders for safety, with one instructor per student. We also have arts and crafts, a pond for fishing, nature trails for hiking, as well as indoor riding and activities facilities when required.

You Can Help Make A Difference!

Camp Centaur programs are funded solely by donations, grants and fund-raising efforts. Families are asked to contribute a nominal registration fee of $30, though actual costs for a two-day horse camp are usually $250. No child is ever turned away because of a family’s inability to pay. Your contributions are tax-deductible and will help a child with cancer, or his or her sibling, enjoy an incredible camp experience.

Where Kids Stretch and Grow

Every child’s potential is unique and can become a marvelous adventure, but children with cancer, or children with either a brother or sister with cancer face special challenges. The strain of dealing with such a medical crisis usually also strains these families’ budgets, which is why we offer scholarships for every camper that needs one.

We encourage each camper to experience the fun of attending a traditional summer day camp experience, PLUS the extra fun and good therapy that riding horseback on our gentle, dependable horses provides. The health and well-being of each camper is our foremost concern, which is why we have a Registered Nurse and certified Physical Therapist as part of our on-site staff.

At Camp Centaur we know and understand that children who have a brother or sister with cancer face special challenges all their own. Cancer-free children participate in a “Partners Camp”, specifically structured and separate from camps for kids with cancer.

By growing, learning, playing and working together, everybody succeeds at Camp Centaur. All campers, those with cancer and those with siblings with cancer gain hope and encouragement for the future and a wonderful opportunity to spend time with others who share similar life circumstances. Just knowing that their situation isn’t so unique is a big help for kids. A child diagnosed with cancer, along with their families, face special circumstances and emotions on a regular basis. Camp Centaur both empowers these children and allows them to experience an “escape” from their worries and be themselves. They come together as individuals and leave with a greater awarenes of self-empowerement along with new friends and an extended family. They share stories, learn about each other’s backgrounds, try new things and gain a renewed sense of independence and self-reliance, and they do it together. self-empowerement along with new friends and an extended family.
